Canoe Pool revealed September 2014

Serendipity brought wild weather and high seas to Newcastle NSW and revealed parts of the Canoe pool during my visit in September 2014. This was a chance to see and photograph the remains of the site with Kris Smith. We also met the son of someone who had played as a child in the Canoe Pool during the 1930’s – possibly one of the children in the photographs that were the starting point for the project. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the connections and continuities of time – time past meets time present: ‘Sands of time in fight with tidal power’.

The day was a gift – a ‘present’!
