Shorelines

‘Shorelines’ was a practice based research collaboration by Cathy Treadaway and Alison F. Bell. Paintings, prints, photographs and textiles were developed collaboratively in order to investigate aspects of creative practice that involve the use of digital imaging technology.

The sea and shoreline has been a recurring source of inspiration for both artists. This project provided a unique opportunity to reflect on these influences through documentary practice-led research and the generation of collaborative artworks.

Treadaway and Bell undertook a series of artists’ residencies in coastal locations around the UK as part of the Shorelines project. The residencies have provided inspiration for collaborative art making. Each investigation has been documented using video and photography to study the creative process. The resulting artworks have been exhibited in  Shorelines, the University Gallery, Newcastle, N.S.W., Australia and the Maclauren Galleries, Ayr, Scotland, UK.
